2018 Grinch has no edge. He’s got no bite. He’s not even that much of an asshole. He’s just a sassy gay furry with unusually nice teeth despite his famous theme song declaring otherwise.

1966 Grinch? Now that was a mean, scary bastard. He was a crusty old fuck who hated society so much that he only came off his shitty frozen mountain to commit crimes and terrorism out of spite.

Bennyhoo Cumberland Grinch comes down from his mountain to buy groceries.

You can round the edges off a character to make them more “relatable” or whatever, but you also run the risk of losing what defined them in the first place. The end result is bland and generic.

2018 Grinch is a reflection of modern society’s rejection of real character flaws in the interest of being “unproblematic” and in this essay i will

congrats OP this is literally the only grinch post i’ll ever reblog

Blocked!

What is it with people and Benedict Cumberbatch these days? Why does it look like everyone hates him? What did he do? It seems like yesterday when everyone loved him for Sherlock 😞

I love Benedict but wish he could have played a really dastardly grinch. He has an awesome voice for it, so why make him cutesy?

Ben did SMAUG ffs. He could have done better than this Grinch.

I reblogged for 2 reasons.  First, OP is on point.  Second, to answer why Benedict did it – sometimes we just want to pay the bills.  He’s a human being, this was an easy job for a decent paycheck.  And if you can’t appreciate that, maybe you need to think about things.

Don’t blame Ben for the new Grinch being so different. Blame Illumination. They want all their movies so squeaky clean and inoffensive, they’re willing to screw with what made a classic character great just to make them fit their cheap mold. They did it with The Lorax and now they did it with The Grinch. They never learn. Thank God they lost the rights to future Seuss movies (Warner Animation Group will be handling them from now on).

Disclaimer: I’ve actually yet to see the new Grinch. From what I’ve heard from people I trust, it’s not terrible, but its main problem (aside from needless story padding) is that the Grinch just isn’t… Grinchy.

the “in this essay i will” joke doesn’t work when you write the essay anyways

all these motherfuckers are right
